Celebrating the anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Land
1944 – 2019: 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and the Battle of Normandy

    • In 2019, we celebrated the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy. 75 years ago the Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy to free the world from fascism. This anniversary is a momentous opportunity to honour the memory and celebrate peace in Normandy. Numerous ceremonies have been held in significant remembrance sites such as Sainte-Mère-Eglise, the Pointe du Hoc, the American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, the battery in Longues-sur-Mer, the beaches of Gold Beach in Arromanches, Omaha Beach in Colleville-sur-Mer, Juno Beach in Courseulles-sur-Mer, Sword Beach in Ouistreham, and Utah Beach in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont.
    • We welcomed the official international ceremony to which many veterans and Heads of State were invited.
    • The 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy was also celebrated in museums: the Caen Memorial, the D-Day Museum in Arromanches, the Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum in Bayeux, the Pegasus Memorial Museum in Ranville, the Overlord Museum of Omaha Beach, etc.
    • The program of events, celebrated in an atmosphere of peace and liberation, has been packed with fireworks displays fired from all along the coast, a giant picnic on Omaha Beach, open-air Liberation balls held throughout Calvados and Manche, parachutes drops above Sainte-Mère-Eglise, military parades, re-enactments of military camps, historic walks along the beaches, militaria fairs for collectors, exhibitions and parades of military vehicles (Jeep Willis, tanks), etc.
